What does University of Newcastle stand for?

University of Newcastle (UON) is a public university in Australia that began as a college of the University of New South Wales in 1951. It is a university that is committed to equity and excellence and in creating a better future for its regions through a focus on impact and innovation. 

UON has campuses in Newcastle Callaghan, Newcastle City, Central Coast, Port Macquarie, and Sydney. It offers undergraduate and postgraduate programs in the fields of accounting and finance, architecture, business and entreppreneurship, community services, computing, communication, education, engineering, medicine, law, society and culture, and science. 

UON is one of the top universities in the world. It is consistently in the top 10 universities of Australia and is ranked 214th in the world by QS World University Rankings. Some notablie alumni of UON include Honourable Minister Professor Yohana Yembise, Minister for Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection, Indonesia; and Christie Dawes, a member of the Rio paralympics team and winner of the women’s Gold Coast Marathon with a record breaking time of 1:43:45.
