What does University of the Philippines Diliman (UP Diliman, UP) stand for?

The University of the Philippines Diliman (UPD) is the main campus of the University of the Philippines System (UP System), the national university by virtue of Republic Act 9500. It has extension campuses in Pampanga and Olongapo City, and a professional school at the Bonifacio Global City. 

UPD occupies 493 hectares of prime land in Quezon City, featuring an array of both old and new buildings housing the various disciplines that offer comprehensive education covering all facets of human behavior and development at the baccalaureate and post-baccalaureate levels.

As of January 2020, UPD had 250 academic programs, 71 of which were in the undergraduate level, 100 in the master’s, professional master’s, Juris Doctor, BA-MA Honors, and 48 in the doctoral levels. Seven Associate in Arts and 24 graduate diploma programs are also offered.

Throughout its history, UP upholds its mandate as the country’s state university shaping minds and producing competent students. Notable alumni who graduated from UP include presidents of the Philippines, senators, supreme court justices, and National Artists. UP is one of the top 1000 universities in the world and is also one of the only three Philippine higher learning institutions that is a member of the ASEAN University Network.
