Manhattan Review was founded in 1999 in New York City, by Joern Meissner, who was at that time, a doctoral student at Columbia Business School. He gained a reputation for clearly explaining complex and advanced subject while giving lectures to MBA students. Some of these students thought if Meissner's teaching methods could be used for preparation for the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT). Challenged by his students, Meissner created original GMAT lectures that covered GMAT material using an efficient and simplified approach and language that was easy to understand. His students agreed that this approach was much better than the old style of memorization and "tricks" offered by other GMAT prep companies.
Manhattan Review has since grown into an an international educational services firm. If offers preparation courses and private tutoring for the Law School Admissions Test (LSAT), Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), nternational English Language Testing System (IELTS), GMAT, SAT, and Graduate Record Examination (GRE) across its branches in the regions of North America, Europe, Asia, and Australian. Preparing tests for international applicants to universities in the English-speaking world has become one of Manhattan Review's specialties, and a large percentage of its student population lives outside of the United States.
